Hammond’s first selection on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival comes in the first race on Friday afternoon. She likes the Willie Mullins-trained Lossiemouth here in the Triumph Hurdle.
Lossiemouth gets a seven-pound fillies’ weight allowance here which will play into her hands if she can muster up a good run here. Rightfully one of the betting favourites and certainly an in-form horse.
Alex Hammond Cheltenham Tip: 3.30pm Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase – NOBLE YEATS @ 9/1
The featured race of the whole Cheltenham Festival – the Gold Cup. Alex Hammond is siding with Noble Yeats in this after his incredible win in the 2022 Grand National at a huge price of around 40/1.
He goes off at around 9/1 for this year’s Gold Cup, and will have to be on top form if he are to beat the likes of A Plus Tard, Bravemansgame and Galopin Des Champs to name but a few.
Noble Yeats backed up his Grand National victory with a third in the Cotswold Chase on his first run since Aintree, showing that he has the class to mix it in this company.
The Hunter’s Chase, also know as the Amateurs Gold Cup, is one that Alex Hammond is siding with Chris’s Dream in.
The Henry de Bromhead-trained 11-year-old has won his last two outings and looks to win his first race at Cheltenham at the third time of asking. This is a very tough race to call, but Hammond is putting her neck on the line with Chris’s Dream.
Alex Hammond Cheltenham Tip: 4.50pm Mares’ Chase – ALLEGORIE DE VASSY @ 6/4
The penultimate race of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival sees the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase go down at 4.50pm. The Sky Sports Racing expert is siding with the Willie Mullins-trained Allegorie De Vassy in this one.
Mullins has won both running’s of this race and this mare has a great chance of making it three from three after two commanding wins over fences. Will likely go off as the favourite, but it is clear to see why. Allegorie De Vassy is going for her fifth straight victory.
Last but not least, the final race of the Cheltenham Festival sees the Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle feature some strong horses in good form. Alex Hammond is backing an each-way shout here in the form of Iroko.
Iroko for trainers Josh Guerriero and Oliver Greenall has taken a while to mature, but has won both his starts this term. He is an improving 5-year-old and still has plenty to five. At odds of 12/1 he makes huge each-way appeal.
