The conclusion of the 2024 regular season is on its way for Oklahoma. The Sooners hit the road one final time in their first season as an SEC member.
Up next for OU is LSU in Death Valley. The Sooners and Tigers will play each other in a regular season game for the first time ever.
Each week here on Sooners Illustrated, we breakdown the betting angles for every Oklahoma football outing. Here’s a look at the gambling aspects of this game between OU and LSU.
Game spread: LSU favored by six points
Analysis- On the Oklahoma side, this is a team fresh off one of the more shocking upsets seen to this point in the 2024 season. The Sooners just stomped Alabama and rolled the Tide in dominant fashion.
Here’s the question: After beating Bama in front of the home crowd at a time where a win was needed and OU was able to handle a talented Tide team, where is OU physically, mentally and emotionally? A victory of that caliber can take a toll, especially if you’re being asked to go on the road to a hostile environment a week later.
LSU is in an interesting situation as well. The Tigers haven’t seen the season they were expecting and through some disappointments both on-and-off the field, this LSU team will absolutely enter this contest desperate for some positive momentum generated on its home field.
Both teams enter this game in heightened emotional states. A lot is on the line for both teams in this contest despite no tangible ‘stakes’ able to be seen by the general public.
There’s enough reason to believe this one could be close. No matter who you have winning, taking OU to cover the spread feels like a fair play.

Game total: Over/under 47 combined points scored
Analysis- This could be a number that’s more based on team reputation than current product. That makes approaching this total a bit tricky.
For Oklahoma, this game is going to be about replicating what was just seen. The Sooners ran the ball a ton to shorten the game and leaned on their defense to limit scoring opportunities.
LSU may not have its best defense in years, but OU aiming to keep it on the ground removes some threat of the Tigers’ secondary getting attacked. That means a low scoring output from Oklahoma is in the cards.
So in order to reach the over, LSU will likely have to carry the load. The Tigers will need Garrett Nussmeier, Caden Durham, Mason Taylor, Kyren Lacy and that offensive line, among others, to dominate in order to increase this combined score.
But the Sooners’ defense in very talented and showed you what it’s capable of. The under might be the safer side in this one.
