Drake shed light on his former romance with Serena Williams in newly released footage from a studio session.
The Canadian rapper, 37, implied he wrote his 2016 single “Too Good” for the famous tennis player when he shared a never-before-seen video of himself discussing the song’s inspiration with his mother, Sandi Graham.
“I get heavy on a couple joints, but this is more about me and Serena,” Drake said of the track, which featured Rihanna and was included on his fourth studio album, “Views.”
“It’s funny because when I make songs about women, I also make songs for them. So, I know what kind of song to make,” he continued.
“If I’m gonna talk about them, I’ll at least do them the justice of making them a song that they like. So, I know Serena very well and I know that she’ll hear it loud and clear, but she’ll also not hate me for it because it’s lighthearted.”
When Graham asked whether “Serena” was “seeing someone else,” the five-time Grammy winner quickly replied, “I don’t know, mom.”
The tennis champion, 42, began dating her now-husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, shortly after she and Drake were spotted locking lips in August 2015.
At the time, sources denied that the pair was dating, but told Page Six that they were previously an item.
“Serena briefly dated Drake around 2011 and even though it didn’t end that well, they have remained friends since,” one insider said.
“He has been at her side at a lot of tournaments recently, including Wimbledon in July, where he sat in her box next to her sister Venus [Williams].”
Williams and Ohanian, 41, announced their engagement in December 2016 and the couple was married in November 2017.
The couple welcomed their first daughter, Olympia, in September 2017.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion gave birth to their second daughter, Adira, in August 2023.
