You are listening to the Expresso Entertainment Update. Here is the latest news from the world of Hollywood brought to you by The Indian Express.
“Let’s begin this bulletin with some news on actor Dhanush, who, along with director duo Anthony and Joe Russo attended the special screening of their latest Netflix film The Gray Man in Mumbai. Other celebrities like Vicky Kaushal, Jacqueline Fernandez, Vishal Bhardwaj, Aanand L Rai and Alaya F were also spotted at the event.
Fans also shared several videos from the screening of The Gray Man. In one video from the red carpet, Russo Brothers talk about working with Dhanush. Calling him “one of the most amazing actors on the planet”, the directors said they are lucky to collaborate with the Indian star. They said, “He’s so talented, but he’s also an amazing person.””
“Dhanush is one of the beneficiaries of the changing dynamics of Hollywood. Of course, he’s not the first talent from India to land a Hollywood film. We had actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Amrish Puri, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia and Ali Fazal playing supporting roles in American-made movies. But, only a handful of actors, who are already superstars in India, have managed to secure lead roles in Hollywood.
Dhanush’s ex-father-in-law Rajinikanth made his debut in Hollywood with director Dwight H. Little’s Bloodstone. It remains the first and only English language film in his career spanning over four decades.
Apart from him, even Aishwarya Rai has had a respectable line-up of films in the west.”
“Irrfan would have surely made waves in Hollywood if not for his untimely death at the age of 53. In the limited time he worked in Hollywood, he left a lasting impression on the industry, especially on acting great Tom Hanks, who described Irfan as ‘the coolest guy in the room.’ Irrfan played eminent roles in Such A Long Journey, A Mighty Heart, The Darjeeling Limited, Slumdog Millionaire, Life Of Pie, The Amazing Spider-Man, Jurassic World, and Inferno to name a few.
Deepika played the female lead opposite Vin Diesel in the popcorn blockbuster XXX: Return of Xander Cage. It remains her only Hollywood film in her career so far.”
“Over the years, Priyanka Chopra has emerged as a truly global star in all conceivable senses. She has movies like Baywatch, A Kid Like Jake, Isn’t It Romantic, and The Sky Is Pink after her debut in Quantico. She will be seen in the Russo brothers’ Citadel.
Alia Bhatt is the newest entrant in the list of Indian superstars to make a mark in Hollywood. She is making her Hollywood debut with Heart of Stone, which is produced by Netflix. She shared the screen space with other international stars like Gal Gatod, Jamie Dornan, and Matthias Schweighöfer in the movie.
Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah have also starred in films in the west.”
“Hollywood star Brad Pitt fights off assassins on a high-speed train travelling across Japan in the action thriller Bullet Train, reuniting with his former stuntman turned director David Leitch.
Pitt plays Ladybug, an unlucky assassin who wants to get a job done well before he finds himself battling a range of dangerous opponents, all with missions connected to his, on board the bullet train.
Based on Kotaro Isaka’s 2010 novel, the film also stars Sandra Bullock, Zazie Beetz, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, and Brian Tyree Henry
Pitt told a news conference in Berlin on Tuesday, about Leitch, “Dave actually was my stunt man in ’98…We met on ‘Fight Club’ and he trained me for the fight and it worked so well,” ”
Veteran action star Sylvester Stallone has called out Irwin Winkler, the producer behind the ”Rocky” films and its sequel series ”Creed”, for allegedly denying him the rights to the franchise for almost five decades now.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, the 76-year-old actor took a swipe at the filmmaker as he shared a portrait of Winkler morphed into a knife-tongued serpent.
He wrote, “A very flattering portrait of the great ‘Rocky’/’Creed’ producer, Irwin Winkler, from one of the country’s greatest. After Irwin controlling ‘Rocky’ for over 47 years, and now ‘Creed’, I really would like to have at least a little of WHAT’S LEFT of my rights back, before passing it on to your children.”””
“Hollywood star Tom Cruise is 60, but his fandom only seems to be growing. Tom was mobbed by fans in London recently, and the moment was shared by none other than the diva herself, Salma Hayek. So when Salma and her husband François-Henri Pinault invited close friend Tom for dinner at a local restaurant, it became a treat for fans.
Salma took to her Instagram handle and posted a photo and some videos from their dinner outing. Her major focus was to show Tom Cruise‘s massive fandom which refuses to die. We see fans going berserk seeing him. While some kept shouting his name, others hounded him for selfies. But Tom was at his calmest best as he obliged each fan.”
