There’s a busy Friday in store with eight horse racing meetings in England and Ireland offering a total of 53 Flat and National Hunt contests plus one Arab race at Bath (8.50pm).
The first port of call is Thirsk (1.40-4.40) for one of six Flat meetings on a schedule that is completed by cards at Brighton (2.00-5.00), Fairyhouse (4.45-8.15), Bath (4.55-8.20), Goodwood (5.15-8.10), and Haydock (6.10-9.00). They go jumping at Market Rasen (1.50-4.50) and Clonmel (5.40-8.30).
Friday’s nap is a promising son of Roaring Lion looking to open his account at Haydock for Charlie Johnston and Oisin Murphy.
Enda McElhinney’s picks for Friday are below. Scroll down to read the expert analysis behind them.

It’s perhaps a little surprising to find Ruling Dynasty favourite at the forecast prices for this 1m 3½f Class 3 novice stakes.
In October, Charlie Appleby’s gelding won on the Tapeta at Newcastle on his second start, but the form of that race isn’t the strongest and the four-year-old has to concede a stone and a half to the promising Charlie Johnston runner KING OF THE PLAINS.
The latter, a colt by Roaring Lion, shaped nicely on debut at Chester’s May Festival over this trip, finishing a close third, and only narrowly failed since when held by the 96-rated John and Thady Gosden-trained runner Ghara at Yarmouth (1m 3½f, good to firm).
Oisin Murphy’s mount is likely to be too hard to beat if he repeats that effort on these favourable terms and he should, on balance of probability, improve once more on this visit to Haydock.

The opener on a six-race evening offering from Goodwood is an apprentice contest over 1m 1f and it may be a good spot for Benoit De La Sayette to showcase his class on NONSUCH LAD for Jim Boyle.
The gelding notched two wins last autumn at Doncaster (1m 2f, good) and Sandown (1m 2f, soft) before running well on his final outing of the season at Windsor in October.
He made his first appearance of this year at the same venue in April and looked rather rusty, finishing a well-held fourth, but he caught the eye next time out at Sandown.
William Buick was on board and, having been towards the rear, the pair had to plot a path between rivals to mount a challenge before finishing the race well and just failing to get up for second spot.
This is an open contest but, from an unchanged mark, De La Sayette could be rewarded with a win if he can pick up a handy position from the get-go.

HANG IN THERE won five races over fences in 2022 and is also a four-time winner over hurdles. He gets our vote for this 2m 4½f Class 2 handicap hurdle.
Emma Lavelle returned the son of Yeats to this sphere last month when he was second in a Class 2 contest at Aintree (2m 4f, good). He finished ahead of useful sorts Soaring Glory and Impulsive One as Dan Skelton’s Boombawn took the prize.
He has gone back up 2lb in the ratings for this assignment but has won over fences from higher marks than this and the extra yardage offered now is a positive given his most dominant displays over fences came at around 2m 5f.
Selection: Market Rasen @ SP with Paddy Power
