Blake’s first selection on Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival comes in the very opening race of the day – the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. The ITV Racing pundit is siding with the Willie Mullins trained Gaelic Warrior to triumph in this one.
Gaelic Warrior has bolted up in two minor events recently around right-handed tracks, but his most notable performance came left-handed at the Dublin Racing Festival in a highly-competitive handicap hurdle. He made light work of the race off a mark of 143, and jumped incredibly well on that day.
For Blake, he is the form pick in this race. The slight step up in trip is a change of variable for Gaelic Warrior, but it isn’t one that unduly concerns the ITV Racing tipster. He fully expects Gaelic Warrior to bolt up down the home straight to win the Ballymore.
Kevin Blake’s second best bet on Wednesday of the Cheltenham Festival is an each-way selection in the Grand Annual Handicap Chase – the penultimate race of the afternoon. The ITV Racing man’s selection is Global Citizen.
The 11-year-old won this race last year and is aiming to go-back-to-back here at Cheltenham. He was generously handicapped last year when winning this race in authoritative style, and this year he only faces a three-pound rise in the weights.
Blake feels that Global Citizen’s campaign has revolved around this race and with him having the go-forward style that so suits it, he is likely to make a bold bid to defend his crown.
