Manchester United vs Chelsea preview
Manchester United and Chelsea renew hostilities in an intriguing clash on Wednesday.
The Red Devils were outclassed in every department against Newcastle over the weekend, and were perhaps a touch fortunate to escape St James’ Park with only a 1-0 defeat.
The loss came a few days after their collapse in the Champions League, where they twice blew a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Galatasaray and leave their European qualification hopes hanging by a thread.
As often happens with Manchester United, two winless matches is considered a crisis and Chelsea have the opportunity to increase the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.
The Blues bounced back from their own defeat to Newcastle with an impressive 3-2 win over Brighton, which left them tenth in the division with five wins from 14 outings.
Mauricio Pochettino will be without Conor Gallagher after his dismissal, but there’s plenty of strength in depth in Chelsea’s ranks to cope with his absence.
The Red Devils were empathic 4-1 winners the last time these sides met, but the five clashes before that all ended in low-scoring draws.

Manchester United vs Chelsea betting tips
Under 2.5 goals at 6/5 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE
Only Luton Town have fired less shots on target than Manchester United (5) over the last two matches. It’s a similar story for Chelsea, who’ve had the joint-least efforts at goal in the last 180 minutes of league action.
The Blues have had eight shots on goal in the last two and scored with four of them. United have had five and scored three.
The pair are outperforming their expected goals but that could come to a grinding halt on Wednesday. Aside from last season’s 4-1 win, the pair haven’t managed over 2.5 goals in the previous five meetings – including two goalless draws.

Harry Maguire to be carded at 21/10 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE
Harry Maguire was in the referee’s notebook on Saturday after committing five fouls during the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle.
The centre-back, 30, was in the thick of the action making three interceptions and six clearances with a further three blocked shots to boot.
But he was often pulled out of position to cover for his colleagues, and that may well happen again against this tricky Chelsea side. Maguire has committed 13 fouls in 674 minutes of league action this season – four less than Bruno Fernandes in half the minutes.
- Our tip: Harry Maguire to be carded at 21/10 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE
Rasmus Hojlund to have 1 or more headed shots on target at 11/4 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE
It looks as though Rasmus Hojlund will spearhead Manchester United’s attack this week.
The striker, 20, has struck five goals for the club since his arrival but none of those have come in the Premier League. He’s had 14 efforts on goal in 690 minutes, 12 of those have been inside the box and four were headers.
That could be good news against the traveling Blues, who’ve conceded 26 efforts on goal from headers this season. The Red Devils also boast the third-highest number of corners taken this season.
