Track Phantom, the star of the early Kentucky Derby prep races at Fair Grounds this winter, returned to the work tab Monday for the first time since he finished 11th in the run for the roses. The Steve Asmussen trainee, winner of the Gun Runner and the Lecomte (G3) in New Orleans, went an easy four furlongs at Churchill Downs.
Skippylongstocking, who has won the Charles Town Classic (G2) for two years running, returned to the work tab Monday for the first time since his repeat victory. The Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee worked a sharp four furlongs in 48.7 seconds. With just under the $3 million mark in lifetime earnings, he has three Grade 2 wins and three placings at the top level, including third-place finishes in the 2022 Belmont Stakes and 2023 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
Nakatomi (Firing Line), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap), worked five furlongs in 1:00.4 at Keeneland on Monday morning. It was the faster of two works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he won the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G1) going six furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on July 27 for trainer Wesley Ward.
Stronghold (Ghostzapper), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Santa Anita Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Del Mar on Monday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 10 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Del Mar. Nothing Like You (Malibu Moon), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2024 Santa Anita Oaks, 2023 Starlet), worked three furlongs in 36.8 seconds at Del Mar on Monday morning. It was the sixth fastest of 13 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed second in the Torrey Pines (G3) going one mile on the main track at Del Mar on Aug. 31 for trainer Bob Baffert.
Cabo Spirit (Pioneerof the Nile), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Twilight Derby), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Del Mar on Monday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 52 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Aug. 29 for trainer George Papaprodromou.
