NORTH COLLINS — After 31/2 innings Thursday, No. 2 North Collins trailed No. 6 Westfield 6-2 in a Section VI Class D semifinal baseball game.
As it turned out, it was no problem for the Eagles, who responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and three more in the fifth, including a two-run single by Asher Parnitzke, to post a 9-6 victory over the Wolverines.
The win sends North Collins (11-6) into the sectional championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday against No. 5 Ellicottville (7-13), which knocked off No. 8 Barker (2-17) in the other semifinal yesterday.
Austin Kehr led the Eagles with two hits and two runs scored; Derek Ebersole scored three times; and winning pitcher Matt Warsaw tallied three times.
Carter Russo (double), Aaron Fuller and Chris Vacanti all had two hits for the Wolverines.
MENDELL SHINES FOR EAGLES
ELLICOTTVILLE — Cameron Mendell tossed a three-hitter and helped his own cause with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs as No. 5 Ellicottville knocked off No. 8 Barker 6-3 in a Section VI Class D semifinal.
Hunter Smith (double) and Gian Nuzzo also had two hits for the winners (7-13).
Tristen Garcia, Kimber, Charles LeGreca and Michael Kalynycz had a single apiece for the Raiders (2-17). Noah Sandolfini took the loss, working five innings, scattering seven hits and allowing three earned runs.
