NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Muskingum University students and staff were asked to shelter in place Friday evening when a person was shot at the school’s baseball field, according to published reports.
Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz told news outlets a person is in custody in connection with the incident. He said a single victim was injured in the shooting. Lutz said law enforcement was no longer searching for additional suspects.
The shooting was reported via 911 call at 7:03 p.m. By 7:45 p.m., Lutz reported a suspect had been apprehended.
The victim, who reportedly received multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to a hospital for treatment.
By 11:43 p.m., the university had posted a statement on its website saying the shelter in place order had been lifted.
“The suspect is in custody, and the campus community is safe,” the site states. “… Due to the incident, all athletic events on Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19, are cancelled.”
