With another slate of Oregon high school football games for the 2024 season occurring tomorrow, the Oregon On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list as of Sept. 12 has eight teams switching places. Four moved up, including South Medford, which jumped two spots. Sheldon, Silverton, and Thurston also improved their placings.

Meanwhile, while no significant droppers existed, Lake Oswego, Jesuit, Sprague, and West Salem went down a notch. Here’s how high school football teams in ‘The Beaver State’ fared in the rankings.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Previous: No. 1
The Lions earned the top ranking on offense and defense after dismantling the Eagle Mustangs 51-14. Cornerback Josiah Molden and tight end Baron Naone were instrumental in opening the season on a solid note. From here, Massey Ratings predict easy victories for West Linn against Sherwood (Sept. 13), Sumner (Sept. 20), and Skyview (Sept. 27).

Previous: No. 2
Last year, the Rams went undefeated and won Oregon high school football’s Class 6-A state championship. They pick up where they left off with convincing victories over Leilehua (35-15) and the California-based Central Catholic Raiders (45-29). Barring any meltdown, their next opponents (Sam Barlow, Clackamas, Gresham) should offer puny resistance against the Rams onslaught.

Previous: No. 3
The Timberwolves opened the season by dominating the Jesuit Crusaders 54-19. Zhaiel Smith was sensational in that game, starting with his 97-yard touchdown return on the first kickoff. He then caught two more touchdown passes from Nolan Keeney, totaling 107 yards. Meanwhile, Keeney had a third touchdown pass, a screen to Cole Hachmeister that covered 33 yards. Keeney finished with five touchdown passes, while Smith had 143 receiving yards. Tualatin brings its offensive juggernaut against South Salem on Sept. 13.

Previous: No. 5 (+1)
The Irish opened their 2024 Oregon high school football season with a convincing 43-13 domination of Tigard. Running back Mana Tuioti had 82 rushing yards and a touchdown, while senior wide receiver Rocco Graziano had three catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Graziano added five point-afters and two field goals without missing an attempt. Sheldon will try their luck in getting their second victory when they face West Salem on Sept. 13.

Previous: No. 4 (-1)
It’s mission accomplished for the Lakers during their first two assignments in 2024. After handily defeating South Medford (33-7), Lake Oswego had a one-sided affair against the Sunset Apollos 48-13. The Lakers had 295 yards on offense versus Sunset, including 236 rushing yards. LaMarcus Bell led the way for the Lakers with six carries for 104 yards and a touchdown. Conversely, they limited the Apollos to 90 net yards. This fifth-ranked team will aim for a 3-0 record against Silverton on Sept. 13.

Previous: No. 6
The Bowmen were on target during their 2024 season opener, resulting in a 42-7 win over the Roosevelt Roughriders. Sherwood gained 222 yards on the ground, led by Andrew Waletich’s 107 rushing yards and a touchdown. Wilson Medina had 87 yards from scrimmage (45 receiving) and three touchdowns (two rushing), while Layton Walter and Mace Tingey each had one rushing touchdown. After this victory, Sherwood’s schedule gets more challenging as they face top-ranked West Linn on Sept. 13 and third-ranked Tualatin a week later.

Previous: No. 7
The Pacers earned the fifth-best defense in Oregon high school football after limiting the Jefferson Democrats to two points. Quarterback Drew Weiler threw four touchdowns, two of which were received by Zyon Floyd. Weiler’s other scoring passes went to receivers Marcus Post and Jayden Tragesser. Meanwhile, running back Ansu Sanoe added 12 carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Tragesser also registered one sack, while Shanko Kornachuk made one interception. Lakeridge will face Sam Barlow and Lakeridge in their next two games.

Previous: No. 9 (+1)
The Foxes went against the Massey Ratings predictions when they defeated Summit in their season opener. More importantly, they proved the victory wasn’t a fluke after edging Mountainside 24-21. Silverton finished that game with 288 yards on offense, including 162 rushing yards and six third-down conversions out of 11 tries. Silverton will put its unblemished record on the line against fifth-ranked Lake Oswego on Sept. 13.

Previous: No. 8 (-1)
The Crusaders are the only team in the Oregon high school football top ten with a losing record. However, they get some consideration for being here because they lost to third-ranked Tualatin. While they gained 241 yards on offense against the Timberwolves, they failed to convert any of their four third-down attempts. Jesuit will need to do more than this effort to score a victory over 13^th-ranked Tigard on Sept. 13.

Previous: No. 10
The Saxons opened the 2024 season with a 28-6 over the North Salem Vikings. Wide receiver Romyl Luster was the star of the show, tallying 13 receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Benjamin Hennan had two touchdown passes while running back Noah Scharer had 62 rushing yards and two touchdowns. However, a real test awaits South Salem as they face third-ranked Tualatin on Sept. 13.
