Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Woods are preparing to make another run at the PNC Championship title.
The duo are in Orlando alongside 19 other two-person teams, each consisting of a major champion or Players Championship winner, paired up with a family member.
Tiger and Charlie are playing a practice round at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Course on Friday and Tiger will hold a session with the media. The real fun begins Saturday, the first day of a 36-hole tournament.
The event is a two-day, 36-hole stroke play competition consisting of 20 teams, each made up of two golfers. Here’s how to watch the PNC Championship this weekend.
The father-son duo are set to see off on Saturday at 10:44 a.m. ET. They are paired with Justin Leonard and Luke Leonard.
The fun starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the first tee time which will be Lee Trevino and Daniel Trevino as well as Nick Price and Greg Price. Tiger and Charlie are in the second-to-last foursome.
The PNC Championship is unique on the pro golf circuit and it’s a great way to end the year, with fathers, mothers and grandfathers playing with their sons, daughters or even grandkids. Who’s the oldest player? Who’s the youngest? Who’s the defending champion. Get some fun facts here.
Tiger and son Charlie will be in a group with Justin Leonard and his son Luke. Charlie and Luke have a connection already.
During Friday’s practice round, Charlie was sporting a Jupiter Links hat. That’s the name of his dad’s team in the upcoming TGL virtual golf league.
Tiger and Rory McIlroy were a large part of TGL’s development, as their joint venture, TMRW Sports, founded the start-up league that is set to debut on Jan. 7 at the SoFi Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The craziest part of TGL’s setup, however, is the bunkers. They feature the same sand as a certain Alister MacKenzie track in Georgia, Augusta National.
The PGA Tour Champions social media team posted a video of Tiger Woods playing a hole.
After pounding his drive, he left himself about 95 yards away from the green. Using a wedge, he stuffed it to about eight feet.
He then drained the putt.
Tiger Woods still enjoys the opportunity to play with Charlie, and in an interview with Steve Sands on Golf Channel, he said he’s happy the PNC allows the duo to pair up.
“He’s matured, definitely, but at the end of the day, he’s still a kid, you know. I just want him to have fun, and be able to enjoy it. And for me to find an environment where he will. It’s been great over the years and this made no exception,” Woods said.
“We’re gonna have a great time. Normally at home, the banter is more against each other not for each other. So, to have that communication and team up like this, we’ve enjoyed it over the years and to have a bonding experience like this, that’s what it’s all about.”
TV’s Carson Daly has been a participant in the PNC Championship before, but on Friday he and his son Jackson got a special treat, getting paired with Tiger Woods and Charlie at the Ritz Carlton.
When Carson said how lucky Jackson was to have this moment on a school day, his son joked that he was “sick” and faked a cough on national television.
As Golfweek’s David Dusek wrote, being the son of a famous athlete has a lot of perks, like Charlie Woods getting to play in the PNC Championship in Orlando this weekend.
You can also add to that list having access to prototype and yet-to-be-released golf equipment.
Tiger is playing an old driver. Charlie has a prototype. Here’s the full story.
Here’s a look at some of the fun from the pro-am day at the PNC Championship.
Our Adam Schupak was following Tiger Woods and his son Charlie through the pro-am on Friday and caught this moment:
Will Tiger Woods and Fred Couples be paired in the opening event of the 2026 PGA Tour Champions season? It’s possible. Couples told Golf Channel he’s hoping to get a chance to play with Woods once he makes a jump to the senior circuit.
Couples also added, however, that he might have some competition in wanting Woods as a partner. Who will he be battling with? See the video below.
When ESPN’s Michael Collins walked up to Tiger Woods during the 2023 PNC Championship pro-am and noted, “You’re looking good,” Woods cracked, “I always look good. You don’t have to tell me.”
Our Adam Schupak was on hand last year and broke down the pro-am round into four key points. Many of these still pertain in 2024.
Tiger was asked how he thinks Charlie is handling growing up the son of a famous golfer.
During Friday’s practice round, Tiger Woods caught the eye of John Daly, and even joked that he would see the two-time major champ “at the gym.”
Daly’s response was right on-brand.
Although Tiger Woods talked at length following the pro-am about his son, he was also asked about the year Scottie Scheffler had in 2024. Not surprisingly, Woods was extremely complimentary.
“I think his consistency over the course of the last couple years. I mean, yes, as I said in the Bahamas, he moves around a lot in his swing, but you watch that ball flight, it doesn’t really do a whole lot. He has amazing feel for hitting the ball the right number, and that’s just something that is innate,” Woods said.
“We can all make birdies. We can all have hot rounds. But how good is your bad? Everyone’s good is good out here, but his bad is really, really impressive. He doesn’t do a whole lot wrong. He understands how to not compound mistakes. It may not happen over the course of a week, but it happens over the course of big events, months of play at an elite level. It just adds up. Not making mistakes adds up.
“You look at what he’s done the last couple years, it’s really impressive.”
Tiger and Long John and their sons met up later in the evening Friday, with the Dalys sporting matching coats.
