In news that was widely expected by many of us, and has been called for for weeks, Graham Harrell has been relieved of his duties by Head Coach Ryan Walters. Purdue put out a release.
This was something that Walters had to do. Just take a look at the stats. Purdue is averaging 21.8 points per game which is only good enough for 14th in the Big Ten and 104th in the nation (134 teams total). Purdue has made just 12 trips into the redzone and that’s over four games. That’s just horrendous and is 105th in the nation.
Harrell came to Purdue expecting to bring the vaunted air raid offense but we’ve seen little of that especially this season. Fans had called for his head for three consecutive games and I’d imagine being unable to score a single point in the first half against Nebraska might’ve pushed Walters to the breaking point.
No word yet on who will call plays going forward.
