I want to oppose those at the head of the market in this 2m7.5f handicap chase – DENTLEY DE MEE, 11-4 favourite at the time of writing, has finished as runner-up in his three starts since joining Venetia Williams but hasn’t found as much as looked likely at the finish on each occasion and started at odds of 5-2, 7-4f and 3-1. Current 4-1 second favourite SKINFLINT won easily over 2m3.5f here in re-applied cheekpieces on his latest start but the headgear is not certain to work again and he’s up in trip on much softer going. There are a few at a bigger prices who could have a say, 7-1 shot BOBMAHLEY has the front-running style which is so effective in handicap chases at Chepstow, 10-1 poke PILOT SHOW could benefit from a wind operation while 66-1 chance MORMON is not entirely without hope now that he’s had a few runs for her his new yard. Buy SP OF WINNER in with Spreadex.

CARLISLE 4.45

Tom Lacey sends two horses to Carlisle today and the bet could be BIG BLUE MOON in the 2m1f handicap hurdle (4.45). The six-year-old caught the eye when keeping on into a modest third over a longer trip in a Chepstow maiden hurdle last time and his yard does well with handicap hurdle debutants. Had we backed all 96 qualifiers we’d have found 22 winners and made a very healthy profit of £67.58 to a £1 level stake at SP. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
