The first half of the Steelers-Browns matchup had a little bit of everything. Unfortunately, it included a potentially serious knee injury to Browns star running back Nick Chubb, who was carted off the field after suffering a knee injury early in the second quarter. The Steelers led at halftime, 16-14. 

As noted above, the first half was a mixed bag of big plays, untimely miscues and even some history when T.J. Watt broke James Harrison’s franchise career sack record when he took down Deshaun Watson with just over a minute left in the half. Watt’s play capped off a defensive-dominated first half with the lone exception being George Pickens’ 71-yard catch and run on a pass thrown by Kenny Pickett.

Pittsburgh opened the scoring when Alex Highsmith recorded a 30-yard pick-six on the first play from scrimmage. Cleveland recovered and scored the game’s next 11 points, which included Watson’s three-yard touchdown pass to Chubb’s backup, Jerome Ford, on the play immediately following Chubb’s injury. 

It may only be Week 2, but this is an important game for both teams. The Steelers are trying to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2019. The Browns are hoping to get to 2-0 for the first time since 1993. In the process, they would be 2-0 against AFC North teams after they whooped the Bengals in Week 1.
