LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s golf senior Gunnar Broin, junior transfer Luke Honner and alum William Duquette are set to compete in the 124th U.S. Men’s Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, Aug. 12-18.
The U.S. Amateur is a week-long event that showcases the top amateur golfers in the country. The event consists of two stroke play rounds on Aug. 12-13, held at Hazeltine National Golf Club and Chaska Town Course. With a field of more than 300 golfers, the top 64 scores will advance through to the match play tournament set for Aug. 14-18, concluding with a 36-hole championship match to decide a winner.
Broin, a native of Shorewood, Minnesota, qualified for the U.S. Amateur after he finished third among sixteen amateurs at the U.S. Open. Broin was also one of just three amateurs to play the weekend at the PGA TOUR’s major championship event. Teeing it up for his third U.S. Amateur, Broin worked as a caddie at Hazeltine National for several years before starting his collegiate career.
Broin is set to open Round 1 on Monday, Aug. 12 at 12:30 p.m. (Central) on Hole 1 at Hazeltine National. For Round 2 on Tuesday, Aug. 13, he will tee off at 7:00 a.m. (Central) on Hole 10 at Chaska Town Course.
Honner pushed through U.S. Amateur Final Qualifying on July 31 at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton, Minnesota. A Sioux Falls, South Dakota, native, Honner shot a 71 and claimed the fifth spot after four playoff holes. Honner is set to join Kansas as a junior for the 2024-25 season after transferring from South Dakota State after the 2023-24 season.
Honner is set for an opening-round tee time of 9:01 a.m. (Central) on Monday, Aug. 12, starting on the 10th tee at Hazeltine National. Honner’s second round will be played at Chaska Town Course on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 2:31 p.m. (Central), starting on the first tee.
Along with Broin and Honner, KU alum William Duquette is also in the field and will make his third appearance at the championship. Duquette shot a 68 at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, New York, on July 22 to push through final qualifying.
Duquette will tee it up for the first round on Monday, Aug. 12 at 8:39 a.m. (Central) on hole 10 of Chaska Town Course. Duquette’s second round will be played at Hazeltine National and begin at 2:09 p.m. (Central) on hole one.
