With most area sports starting practices, playing games is still on the back burner due to typical Wisconsin weather.
Only a few teams have gotten practice time outside in the opening weeks of the spring season, with most still holding practices indoors.
For Pacelli and SPASH, cancelations and postponements have filled the baseball and softball schedules early in the season.
The Panthers’ softball game vs. Waunakee scheduled for today, Mar. 31, is postponed.
“It is disappointing when your early games get canceled because there is so much excitement going into the season,” SPASH softball coach Tom Drohner said. “It is even worse when you are practicing inside the entire time. We have been outside to catch fly balls only twice, and you know that you will not be as good when you go out and play for the first time.”
The SPASH varsity baseball team had De Pere coming to town for a doubleheader to open the year at Bukolt Park on Saturday, Apr. 1. That was recently moved to Saturday, May 20.
Pacelli has had a similar issue on the diamond.
The Cardinals’ varsity softball team has had three games postponed or canceled already, including a trip to Oshkosh North today, Mar. 31.
The game vs. Port Edwards on Monday, April 3, is also postponed to Friday, May 5.
Pacelli baseball’s matchup with Port Edwards, scheduled for Monday, April 3, will also be played on Friday, May 5.
Other local teams like Amherst, Almond-Bancroft and Rosholt also combat the battle of scheduling changes.
The Falcons’ softball team, just like Pacelli, has had a handful of games postponed or canceled.
Amherst’s girls’ soccer game on Mar. 30 vs. Clintonville got canceled just a few days after the Falcons hosted a scrimmage on Mar. 28.
Almond-Bancroft and Rosholt have combined for five cancelations or postponements for games scheduled early into next week.
