Fresh off earning 11 Oscar nominations, Poor Things is coming to home theaters soon.
The Yorgos Lanthimos-directed absurdist comedy will be available starting Feb. 27 to buy or rent digitally at Apple TV, Prime Video and other transactional video-on-demand platforms. It will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on March 12.
Based on the novel by Alasdair Gray, Poor Things takes place in Victorian London and stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, a young woman who dies by suicide and is resurrected by the eccentric scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). In his film review, THR‘s David Rooney writes that Bella “evolves in this subversive twist on Mary Shelley from a Frankenstein experiment with — literally — the mind of an infant into an inquisitive girl with a hunger for sex and adventure, then finally, a fiercely spirited, independent woman.”
Mark Ruffalo and Ramy Youssef also star in the film, which has already won Golden Globes awards for best musical or comedy motion picture and best actress for Stone.
The movie has earned Academy Award nominations for best picture, best directing (Lanthimos), best lead actress (Stone), best supporting actor (Ruffalo), best writing for adapted screenplay (Tony McNamara), best cinematography (Robbie Ryan), best costume design (Holly Waddington), best makeup and hairstyling (Nadia Stacey, Mark Coulier and Josh Weston), best original score (Jerskin Fendrix), best production design and best film editing.
