The Youngstown State women’s golf team will return to fall action on Saturday when it begins play in the Nittany Lion Invitational hosted by Penn State at the PSU Blue Course in University Park, Pa.

The Penguins are coming off a 21-stroke victory at the season-opening YSU Kickoff on Sept. 2. YSU posted a single-round team score of 305 to win the event for the third consecutive season. Junior transfer Maddi Shoults earned medalist honors in her YSU debut with a four-under-par round of 68 while sophomore Neeranuch Prajunpanich was the runner-up with an even-par 72.

The tournament field at the Nittany Lion Invitational will feature 13 other schools including Akron, Central Arkansas, Central Michigan, Columbia, Delaware, Harvard, Jacksonville State, Penn State, Princeton, Richmond, Seton Hall, Towson and Yale.

The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Saturday’s opening round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. while Sunday’s final round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The course will play approximately 6,423 yards and par is 72. Live scoring via Scoreboard will be available through links posted on YSUsports.com.

Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU’s five-player lineup will feature Prajunpanich, Lizzie Saur, Shoults, Sofia Perez Escarcena and Valentina Peña Anaya.

All five players finished in the top 10 of the individual standings at the season-opening YSU Kickoff. Perez Escarcena placed third with a single-round 76 in her first collegiate tournament while Peña Anaya finished fifth with a 78 in her collegiate debut. Saur tied for sixth with a 79 in the first event of her senior campaign.
