No. 2 seed Clara Burel and No. 3 seed Diane Parry are forming a French double-header at the 2024 WTA Jasmin Open in Monasir, Tunisia. They won their opening round matches on Monday and will now compete in the event’s next stage on Wednesday. Burel is taking on Rebecca Sramkova, while Parry will face Yulia Starodubtseva. Who do you think will make the quarterfinals?
Head-to-head: First meeting
Sonay Kartal is 40-7 for the year with the vast majority of these matches coming on the ITF Tour. The Brit was already dominating the lower circuits like that in 2022 before hitting a wall. It’s still possible that it will also happen this time, but maybe Kartal is simply better prepared to hit the main tour right now. It’s a decent test for her as Mai Hontama will make her play off the ground and check if the Brit can wrap up points. The confidence should get her through.
Predictions: Kartal in 3Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Jana Fett
Head-to-head: Sorribes Tormo 1-0
Sara Sorribes Tormo had a very strong patch around Madrid/Rome/Rabat, but has been struggling for wins since. Making the quarterfinals here would be a welcome change and it seems like this event could be the turning point for her. Jana Fett was also not on point in the last couple of months and had to battle for her opener against Mayar Sherif here. Seems like one of the matchups where Sorribes Tormo will get time to work the point as well.
Predictions: Sorribes Tormo in 2

Head-to-head: First meeting
Rebecca Sramkova looked like she might finally become a long-term main Tour threat around Rome and the French Open, but now the Slovak is back to being far outside the Top 100. Her peak level is undeniably extremely high with the floor often not quite living up to it. Her first round performance against Elsa Jacquemot was far from confident and now she has to take on the second seeded Clara Burel. To beat someone of this quality, Sramkova would need to come out all guns blazing.
Predictions: Burel in 3
Head-to-head: First meeting
After going 12-0 in Grand Slam qualifying this year, Yulia Starodubtseva is looking for her breakthough event on the WTA Tour. This could be it and a win over Diane Parry would be a fairly big step in her career. She’s won all three matches in Monastir so far in deciding sets with the most impressive one coming over Suzan Lamens in the main draw. But the former junior No. 1 Parry is such a skillful player and should be able to feel pretty confident on the attack here with Starodubtseva not having the weapons to hold her back.
Predictions: Parry in 3
