The final PGA Tour event to earn FedEx Cup Playoff points is this week in Greensboro, NC for the 2024 Wyndham Championship Aug. 8-11. The 156 player field drew seven players ranked No. 15-30 in the world including Brian Harman, Robert McIntyre, Sungjae Im, Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, Cameron Young, Akshay Bhatia, and Shane Lowry. A total of 30 of the top 60 players in FedEx Cup points are in the field with many other golfers shooting to finish strong and earn FedEx Cup points hoping to move up or stay in the top-70 of the FedExCup standings.
Next week’s FedEx Cup Playoffs start in Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
FedEx Cup Playoffs Overview and Eligibility
Sedgefield Country Club is a classical Par 70 Donald Ross design with tree-lined fairways that plays to 7,131 yards. The course is annually one the two easiest Par-70’s on the PGA Tour with winning scores the past eight years consistently between -20 to -22 under par.
This week, rain and wind are in the forecast in Greensboro with a better than 80% chance of showers Thursday and Friday setting up softer and slower greens for lower scoring and target practice on approach to the pins.
Key golf stats of interest at Sedgefield include driving accuracy, premium putting on the undulating Bermuda greens and elite wedge play. Strokes gained Approach shots from 100-175 yards are targeted with the shaved, larger run-off areas surrounding the green complexes. See players below who are leaders on Par 4’s in the 400-450 yard range, of which there are eight holes this week.
The 507 yard par-4 18th is the most difficult hole on the course, and will produce much anxiety for players pushing to make the playoffs. It was also a key hole in 2021 when the Wyndham resulted in a 6-man playoff won by Kevin Kisner after stiffing his approach shot on No. 18 to 3-feet and make birdie on the second playoff hole.

Lucas Glover moved up sharply last season by winning the Wyndham Championship and $1.4 millon of the $8 million purse. He’ll need a top-10 finish this week to make this year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Webb Simpson won here in 2011, and he’s finished inside the top 10 in 12 out of 14 career appearances.
William Hill Estate Winery, a napa wine brand for nearly 50 years, is the Official Wine of the Wyndham Championship. Fans attending the tournament can find William Hill at the Sunbrella Wine Deck, an open-air three-tiered, shaded platform structure overlooking the 17th fairway of Sedgefield Country Club.
“William Hill has a long history in golf and is deeply cherished by our consumers, many of whom are avid golfers and enthusiasts of professional sports,” said GALLO Vice President of Brand Management, Beth Orozco.
PGA Tour golf ambassador and William Hill wine fan Davis Riley missed the cut last year but T13 at the Wyndham Championship during his rookie season on Tour in 2022 shooting all four rounds in the 60’s. He’s just outside the top-70 at No. 72 and shooting to earn a spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The 27-year-old former University of Alabama standout won the Charles Schwab Challenge in May as a huge longshot greater than 350/1.
“Really excited to be partnering up with William Hill Estate Winery this season,” Riley said on his Instagram account last week. “There’s nothing better than a glass of their Chardonnay after a round of golf, with friends, or on a date night. Cheers!”
Riley is looking for a date in the FedEx Cup Playoffs next week along with so many other challengers this week.
