This week’s ATP event in Buenos Aires marks the beginning of the South American clay swing and, as always, it features plenty of Argentine clay court specialists looking to win a title at home, but this year it also features world #2 Alexander Zverev, looking to get some clay court reps as he aims for a first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.
Head-to-head: Tabilo 1-0 Djere
Tabilo had a spectacular breakthrough year in 2024, but is yet to win a match in 2025. This certainly won’t be an easy one, as Djere is always a tough nut to crack on clay and has been playing very well so far in Buenos Aires, both in qualifying and in the first round against Muller. It should be a far closer match than the rankings would suggest, but Tabilo should have the slight edge.
Prediction: Tabilo in 3
Head-to-head: Baez 2-0 Wild
Seyboth Wild eliminated the defending champion in the first round and has shown many times that he has the ability to be very dangerous on this surface, but Baez is the far more consistent player of the two and has built his ranking up based on deep run in smaller best of three events. If Wild plays his best, he can definitely win here but under normal circumstances Baez should prevail.
Prediction: Baez in 3

Head-to-head: Francisco Cerundolo 1-0 Juan Manuel Cerundolo
A battle between brothers is a rare and certainly interesting event, but Francisco is clearly the better player of the two, as shown by their respective ranking and achivements to date. That said, this is a very special matchup and the two players know each other’s games inside out, it could certainly be much closer that the rankings would suggest.
Prediction: Francisco Cerundolo in 3
Head-to-head: Zverev 4-0 Lajovic
Zverev might be yet to win a Grand Slam title, but in best of three he is an all-time great player and always one of the favorites in every event he enters. The South American clay swing is uncharted territory for him, but clay is arguably his best surface, with four Masters 1000 titles on the surface and constant deep runs at Roland Garros, where he will be one of the favorites this May for sure. As tough as Lajovic can be on this surface, Zverev should be able to prevail here.
Prediction: Zverev in 2
