If you’ve ever thought that being an NBA player was a matter of luck in addition to skill and practice, well, in this case you may be right. As sports business analyst Darren Rovell tweeted, and Bleacher Report’s Andrew Peters picked up on, Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams just struck it rich(er) on his first day in the collectible trading card market.
Williams, an admitted collector of Pokemon cards, decided to try his hand at NBA card collecting. He bought a $10,500 box of National Treasures on Friday, recouping his investment and then some when he discovered a rare Luka Doncic rookie card in his haul. The card included a jersey patch and an autograph, a package valued at $100,000 or more. According to the Bleacher Report article, Williams has already received offers of up to half a million for the find, but is committed to giving Doncic the right to purchase his own card first.
In addition to the swanky extras, the card was reportedly graded a 9 out of 10 on the condition scale.
So there you have it. Grant Williams is the luckiest guy ever and Luka Doncic is the new NBA Pikachu. Not bad for a summer off-season weekend.
