NFL star Marlon Humphrey blasted Olympic champions Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles for bowing down to Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade after she clinched the gold medal in the floor exercise final.
“This is literally disgusting,” the Baltimore Ravens cornerback posted on X (formerly Twitter) Monday.
Humphrey, 28, faced blowback immediately on the social medium and fired off a second message: “I’m lowkey getting cooked right now. I think I’m getting cussed out in Brazilian [sic] on Instagram lol.”
The athlete should have written “in Portuguese” instead of “Brazilian,” as the former is the national language of Brazil.
Humphrey didn’t elaborate as to why he was so offended by the act of sportsmanship despite netizens flooding his account with questions and commentary.
“God forbid athletes show respect to a fellow athlete who has suffered a torn ACL multiple times,” wrote one user.
“Yeah, because giving someone their flowers who has come back from THREE ACL tears to continue to be a top gymnast is disgusting,” added another.
“Three black women who are the best at what they do showing sportsmanship is what you would define as disgusting?” questioned another.
Andrade, 25, narrowly defeated Biles to win gold, besting the American star with a 14.166 score compared to Biles’ 14.133.
Meanwhile, Chiles took home bronze on inquiry at 13.766 for her first individual Olympic medal; she medaled in two team competitions, including winning gold.
“She’s so amazing,” said Biles, 27, in a press conference after the event. “She’s queen. And first it was an all-black podium so that was super exciting for us, but Jordan was like, ‘Should we bow to her?’ and I was like, ‘Absolutely.’
“So we’re like, ‘Are we going to do it now?’ and then that’s why we did it,” Biles continued. “She’s such an excitement to watch and then all the fans in the crowd, always cheering for her so it just, it was just the right thing to do. She’s queen.”
